$49 billion: The unpaid tab at the hospital every year

USA Today reports on a study that claims $49 billion in hospital bills go unpaid every year. It shows uninsured families unable to pay their medical bills, including middle class families.

“This report shows that even higher-income uninsured families are struggling to meet the high costs of health care,” the articles quotes a U.S. Health and Human Services official as saying. Thank goodness health reform passed; in the coming years, nearly all Americans will have some kind of health insurance, with subsidies to help if you can’t afford it.
