American girls dominate at Google-sponsored science fair

Three very accomplished young scientists were recognized last week at Google’s first science fair. All American girls, the winners presented impressive studies of lung health and even cancer research at the international event.

Remember the controversy over the former president of Harvard saying that women can’t compete in science and math? These girls were not fazed. “At the end, we were like, ‘Yeah, girl power!’ ” said Naomi Shah of Portland, Ore., whose study of lung health won her the prize in the age 15-16 category.
