Child nutrition amendment passes!

Last week we told you about an amendment in support for bolstering child nutrition programs.  Well, we’re pleased to tell you that it passed.  Thanks to everyone who called in!

The amendment, slipped into a recent defense bill, doesn’t change the law or control funding.  It simply expresses “the sense of Congress” that with more than one in four children living at risk of hunger, we should do more for needy children. It passed in a 341-85 vote, showing that there is broad, bipartisan support for renewing child nutrition programs with the $10 billion that President Obama and child advocates are calling for.
