Live-tweeting the congressional hearing on No Child Left Behind
Voices has been at the congressional hearing today on the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the law also known as No Child Left Behind. There have been several attempts to reform the controversial education law recently, but Congress has made only piecemeal progress and the nature of election year politics makes us wonder if broad education reform can really happen in the near future.
The hearing today predictably revolved around the question of accountability in education. How should student performance be judged? And the performance of teachers? Who does the judging — state governments or new federal incentivizing? Voices live-tweeted the back and forth from @VoicesAC. Follow us for more updates and live-tweeted events on the policies that shape children’s lives.
P.S. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention a blog post today on the legislation by our friends at Education Week.
