Student test scores correlate strongly with mother’s education
Mother Jones last week pointed to very interesting research that shows just how important a mother’s education is to her child’s achievement. Economist and Nobel laureate James Heckman shows in a chart that, on average, the higher a mother’s education level, the better test scores her child achieves.

Not only is early education the right thing to do morally, but it also makes good economic sense. Heckman argues that his findings clearly call for early intervention programs — like child care and pre-K — to get the most out of our education dollar.
