“Even short-term poverty can hurt kids’ health”

With one in five American children living in poverty, it’s important to understand the health problems that come with it.  A new report by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia shows that because so much important development happens in these years, even short periods of poverty can have a terrible impact.

Among the threats the report listed were hunger, poor housing and abuse — all issues that Voices has been focusing on lately.  When children are faced with malnutrition, unsafe living arrangements and a stressful home life, it’s easy to see how short-term poverty can result in lifelong problems for our children.  Check out our child nutrition page to learn more.
