Gov. Walker signs budget that’s brutal for kids
Gov. Walker of Wisconsin, infamous for his standoff with unions this spring, has recently signed a state budget with cuts to education, health care, and other services children rely on, our member there reports. Wisconsin Council on Children and Families has decided to spend this month showing different ways the budget affects children and families in a new blog series called “31 ways in 31 days.”

School funding cuts, financial aid freezes and threats to child care are some of the topics Wisconsin Council on Children and Families has already covered. “The aim of this series is to highlight the direct and meaningful ways in which people’s lives are touched by the budget decisions our elected leaders have made, and demonstrate that we can do better,” said Ken Taylor, executive director of the group. “The budget is not just about making the numbers add up. It is about how we, as Wisconsinites, choose to share the benefits and the burdens of living together in this great state. This budget shifts more of the burden and less of the benefit toward children and families. The work of restoring the balance must begin now.”
