National Call-in Days: Tell Congress to Pass the Child Nutrition Bill This Year

Today new data from the USDA shows that children still struggle with hunger in the U.S. The number of struggling families had a dramatic uptick during the recession and now one in 10 households with children have at least one child living at risk of hunger.

With so many families in need, it’s very important that Congress passes the child nutrition bill this year. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S. 3307) allows children on Medicaid to qualify automatically for free or reduced priced lunch, expands the afterschool meals to all 50 states, and gives the U.S. Department of Agriculture authority to set nutrition standards for foods sold on school premises.

  • America’s children can’t wait: Pass the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S.3307) this year.
  • Help ensure that children have nourishing meals in the places they gather.
  • Restore cuts to food stamps in a separate bill before Congress adjourns for the year.
