New opportunities for home visitation in South Carolina
We talked a couple weeks ago about the importance of home visitation programs, especially for new families. Home visitation programs provide in-home information and support by professionals to new families during pregnancies and the early years of their children’s lives. Now Voices member the Children’s Trust of South Carolina has awarded two significant grants for the expansion of the home visiting program in South Carolina.
“Peggy Ford, Executive Director of Children’s Place, Inc, is excited about this opportunity. She remarks, ‘The funds will allow for a great expansion and compliment to the existing programs within our agency and strengthen services in both Aiken and Barnwell Counties.’ The grant award is $127,670 per year for three years and will assist with the implementation of Family Check Up. It will link families with young children to appropriate services and referrals and provide a necessary continuity of care. This model will add to the South Carolina home visiting continuum.”
In all, they will distribute more than $300,000 per year for three years to the Children’s Place, Inc. and Medical University of South Carolina. Follow the Children’s Trust of South Carolina on Twitter for timely updates on child well-being in the state.
