Congress disappoints on early education promises

On the campaign trail, then-Senator Obama promised an additional $10 billion in federal funding for early education in the style of the popular Race to the Top program.  But since watching funding for the Early Learning Challenge Fund get stripped from the health reform bill, advocates of early education have been disappointed by Obama and Congress.

“In the months following the election, the Transition Team, of which I was a member, met with key legislators and top staffers. When we sounded them out on their priorities, the message was invariably the same: early learning topped the agenda,” recounts David L. Kirp in Early Ed Watch.

We need to let policy-makers know that we still care about these promises to our youngest!  Watch this blog and our early education page to learn how.
