One in six Americans now depend on government anti-poverty programs
Record numbers of Americans have come to rely on government programs for the poor, USA Today reports. Medicaid, which provides health services for low-income individuals, has seen enrollment climb 17 percent since the end of 2007, and now serves more than 50 million people. More than 40 million now get food stamps.
