One year in, new health law helping families

To round out our week of health reform celebrations, we wanted to share a great story in USA Today about one family helped by the new law. A little girl in Ohio had been receiving treatment for Leukemia, but her family had no idea that their insurance company had set a $1 million lifetime limit on her care. Once that limit had been reached, her family would have been helpless to care for her.

But the new health reform law has stopped insurers from placing lifetime limits on care, and her cancer is now in remission. As the piece states, she’s not out of the woods yet, but at least her family no longer has to worry about declaring bankruptcy just to care for her. “The cost of medicine, you just wouldn’t believe,” her mother is quoted saying. Read the article to hear this story and more of the benefits of health reform!
