RI KIDS COUNT: Using data to improve children’s lives

A great article shows how gathering data on children is the first step to making better child policy. That seems pretty simple, but often child advocates are the only ones collecting all the raw data about children’s well-being — their health, education, safety and other factors — and putting it in context.

“When we started, the data was being collected but not seeing the light of day. We became the vehicles for packaging the data and exposing it to those who needed to see it,” said Elizabeth Burke Bryant, executive director for Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, a Voices for America’s Children member.
