Small businesses benefiting from health care reform

Although health reform opponents argued that small businesses would be hurt by the law, they’re actually expanding health insurance coverage to employees, according to a recent op-ed in the Pocono Record. Major insurance companies are reporting a nationwide increase in small businesses offering health insurance, Frank Knapp Jr., president and CEO of the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce, writes.

“A small business with only one employee with a pre-existing condition finds itself priced out of the market or paying highly inflated premiums. In 2014, health insurance companies will no longer be allowed to charge higher rates because of pre-existing conditions,” writes Knapp. Follow us on Facebook to get updates on health policy and more!
