Tell the super committee: Protect programs that protect kids!
“Think of the debt we’re leaving the next generation,” deficit hawks will often remark. Yet sometimes the cuts they propose are some of our most important investments in the next generation. We need to make sure that when we balance the budget, we’re not leaving behind a different kind of a debt: a human deficit.
Next week the congressional “super committee” faces a deadline to reduce the deficit by more than $1 trillion. This is a critical time to tell Congress to protect the programs that protect kids. Everything from Pell Grants to food stamps could be affected unless we act. You can use our new Facebook app to contact the super committee directly and tell them, “Don’t Cut the Programs Children Depend On!”
Joblessness remains high, and we should remember that jobs lost often mean health benefits and food security lost as well. Although the recession is technically over, the hardship continues for the more than 9 percent unemployed, a rate that is much higher in certain hard-hit parts of the country.
It’s crucial that we demand our members of Congress put kids first. Please join us.

November 16, 2011 at 8:55 pm by Teekesha SemienIt is vital to balance the budget, while maintaining those programs vital to protect children and maintain overall health and safety of the children who reside in America. It is time for America to really take a strong look at American society and keep programs in place that benefits American children no matter what political party Politicians represent, the bottom line should be for the benefit of Americans and their children.
November 18, 2011 at 7:11 am by Susan DonohoeWell yes there is so much waste in spending but the waste is when spending is inappropriate within the programs not because of most of the programs. Children’s programs are necessary!! They are innocent and not of age to ensure caring for themselves. Our Kids need to go to school, eat, and have healthcare and the needier the less they may be capable of caring for themselves. Listen you want to cut spending I understand but not when it comes to the children. Seriously if you don’t start changing something involving Lawyers and insurances companies (again the lawyers) we are going down hill fast. I come from a long line of Doctor’s and Lawyers but seriously they are running our country and for what, mostly to line their pockets by making so many rules that you can not even breath without having a lawyer affect you. Our country needs to take care of its innocent children and allow us adults to make some of our own decisions! Thank you
November 20, 2011 at 10:42 pm by Barbara BackusI totally understand that we must make budget cuts, but you cannot cut any programs that affect our future which is our children. I am sorry to hear that many Republican congressmen have signed a pledge to not raise taxes. I understand that pledge but this is extraordinary times and you cannot let one man run how you will vote. Release yourself from that pledge to taxwatch and do what is right raise taxes to the richest 1% of our society and close loopholes.
