Who’s reading to their kids the most?

Voices member Children’s Action Alliance (of Arizona) recently brought up an interesting statistic from the latest KIDS COUNT report: young children who are read to by their parents. The report, compiled by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, shows which states read to their children regularly. How does your compare?

The importance of early learning can’t be overstated. Especially in light of a report, also by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, that alerts to the danger of student underperformance in reading. According to “Early Warning! Why Reading by the End of Third Grade Matters,” by fourth grade students are not only learning to read, but reading to learn, making written skills fundamental to nearly everything taught in school.
