Show you support kids!
I am writing in support of alternatives to incarceration for juvenile offenders. Over the last decade, federal spending for anti-delinquency programs has dropped and the costs of incarceration have risen, with negative consequences for America's children. The Coalition for Juvenile Justice has found that it costs $241 a day to incarcerate a youth. On the other hand, proven intervention programs can cost as little as $11 a day and can reduce recidivism by 22 percent compared to jailing youths. I demand that Congress make smart investments in kids by through effective alternatives to incarceration. While policymakers talk about making program cuts "for the children," alternatives to incarceration offer real savings and proven reductions in recidivism.
